Pushing the limits of wedding photography

And the winner is … the Fearless Photographers! A great discovery we did last year with this “unique directory of the world’s boldest photographers who are not afraid to push the limits of wedding photography to surprise you with extraordinary images from your wedding day. It’s meant for bride and grooms who truly love photography”. Therefore only less than the top 10% of all images submitted for the 2-monthly contests are worthy to be called Fearless Awards and only these award winning pictures of the members are showcased on the site.
We immediately liked the concept of this group, created by photographers for photographers and apparently we were not the only ones, as the number of members bursted incredibly since they got rolling on January first, 2011.
What attracted us the most was the idea of their ‘open’ contest, without limitations of categories or style; A great picture is simply a great picture. That’s why we are proud indeed to show off our round 9′s two most recent awards. Earned out of 5000 photographs, presented by 350 participating photographers. Touch down and off to the next round!

A LIFETIME JOURNEY

“A wedding is not just one year of preparation, but a lifetime; because it takes a lifetime to find the right person to love and for love to find you”. At this instant a tear dropped while Jocelyn expressed herself, ready to leave Fairmont Mayakoba for her wedding to Alejandro, who was waiting for his wife to be in Playa del Carmen. They did it traditional style with an exotic touch: after the Catholic ceremony there was also a Spiritual Mayan ceremony in the gardens of Xcaret. Euforia who, once again, did an amazing job with flowers, candles and decoration, created the perfect ‘love scene’ to celebrate the encounter of these best friends and lifetime lovers.

True Romance

Cannibal Royal is absolutely one of our favourite beach clubs in Playa del Carmen and Maud, together with Maria from Weddings in Playa, transformed the place in an over the top romantic wedding scenery. The original choice of color (Orange and Pink) combinated with the turquoise augment of the backdrop, together with a touch of handcraft, enlightened perfectly this ‘naturally beautiful’ american born french-jewish couple; a perfect combination that rocked the night away! During the enhancement of the pictures, we added a tone of green to create a contrast with Maud’s choice for coral red in order to let it pop out even better.
A traditional jewish ceremony must take place at sunset, therefore we decided together with Maud and her fiance to take the time to shoot more photographs in a relaxed casual session the day after. There, on an intimate beach close to Playa del Carmen, the bride shined as bright as on her wedding day.

As a wedding planner in Madrid with Mexican roots, Jessica knew exactly how to create a wonderful wedding experience: traveling with her spanish love to one of the most magnificent beaches of her home country and invite their family to a very stylish ‘white wedding’ in Xcaret. Together with the team of Solen they created a very intimate atmosphere, especially during the church ceremony, by changing the traditional flower decoration by candles. Nothing would spoil the party: despite of an injured foot, Jessica kept her heels high all night and danced even through our trash the dress session in Tulum. Thanks to the people of Cesiak, we had access to an untouched part of nature in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, where the beauty of the Caribbean coast is breathtaking. This is where Jessica did pop up a fine accessory to give her destination wedding an extra spanish touch. We were very proud to be chosen as a professional by such a wedding professional!

ALBUM DESIGN • Luisa + Lowell

The layout of our albums is created in-house. Together with our graphic designer Lorena, we proceed to an original way of re-organising and if necessary recutting the pictures to adjust them into a modern page fitting. In combination with the introduction of the artistic elements of each wedding in particular (e.g. typography, logo and patterns of the decoration), every album becomes a true ‘piece unique’. Before the album is sent for impression, it is always presented to the client for approval of the layout. Additional parent albums are offered at a discount price, on the condition that they have the same design as the main wedding album.
Here we present the 2 albums that covered the complete wedding story of Luisa and Lowell. The first one holding the engagement dinner, engagement session and the welcome reception, the second one covering the actual weddingday.

Amanda & Jonathan went down from Denver to celebrate their destination wedding on the beach of Playa del Del Carmen with 100 of their relatives & friends. This was our first coverage at Wicky’s, the perfect place for such wedding since Amanda & Jonathan wanted to place their reception with a ocean view & keep the quality of one of the best restaurants in Playa del Carmen. We thank Gelena & Luisa from weddingsrivieramaya for helping the coordination of that big event & organize this unbelievable parade on tricycles through the streets of our mooving city. April + Adam • Welcome Cocktail at Basico Hotel Playa del Carmen

When Adam told me during our pre-wedding meeting that April and him were organizing a Pirate Party at Hotel Básico as a welcome cocktail in desguise, we immediately agreed that this is a proper way to start the coverage of a two day wedding event. No doubt April & Adam come from Crazy California, turning the night into a fun, fresh fantasy…

Tip for Brides: A rehearsal dinner can give more personality to your wedding by organizing a theme party or a one color only dresscode, instead of just another cocktail or dinner. Let your imagination run wild! It also gives different pictures to tell your wedding story, as it gives the possibility to shoot series of portraits, in order to have beautiful memories of the guests and for us as photographers to become closer to the people we will fix on film in a photojournalistic style during the wedding.

April + Adam • Playa del Carmen Xcaret Wedding

MADLY IN LOVE IN MEXICO

After a short and hot night the Big day started at Deseo Hotel, where I witnessed Adam discovering his bride to be. It was a precious intimate moment we shared before the love birds took off to their mayan flavoured wedding at Xcaret.

Tip for Brides: For many brides the question whether or not to see each other before the wedding ceremony is a difficult decision. My experience shows that, maybe you loose the tradition and the magic of the first glance down the aisle, but a previous encounter permits a more spontaneous and affectionate expression of your feelings which are running wild at the moment! Having the possibility to shoot a bridal session before the ceremony also suits particularly winter weddings because often the ceremony is planned just before sunset (especially at Xcaret), and if the couple does not want to meet before the ceremony, they loose the possibility of perfect daylight pictures.

Out of the different wedding locations Banyan Tree has to offer, Ebony and Mike choose to have an intimate ceremony on the Roof Top Terrace. Such an intimate setting makes that you are really part of the event and was very touching. After the ceremony, the couple and their close family were escorted by white vessels on the Mayakoba canals to the beach, where we enjoyed a sweet formal / bridal session that took us into the night with an impressive sunset. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as we did taking them!
